Motorcycles are gaining popularity today with more people beginning to ride than ever before. People are riding many different versions of the standard Harley motorcycle. This includes the three wheeled motorcycle, motorcycles with side cars (for dogs and human passengers), modified bikes and padded bikes – all for the motorcycle enthusiast’s pleasure. Bikers enjoy being in the open country air, love getting to know other bikers and long for the sense of adventure that can only be felt on a motorcycle. But these modes of transportation hold a false sense of security and false perception of safety when operating on busy highways and freeways. When a motorcycle has an accident with a car or a truck, it is clear to see who the real winner will be. Pound per pound, the motorcycle will have a difficult time protecting even the most seasoned motorcycle rider from injury after a loss with an auto or truck. Most states require helmets, though some still have no requirement to wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle. When cyclists are wearing helmets, the percent of serious head, neck or spinal injuries are so small they are a tenth of a percent or less nationwide as a result.

Insurance insures the motorcycle rider in the event of an accident or loss. This is significant because over 75% of motorcycle accidents happen with cars or trucks when the cars don’t see the motorcycle in a lane or when turning into side roads. If a motorcycle is involved in a single accident, it is still usually caused by a sliding effect of the motorcyclist braking too hard to avoid a car and falling off the motorcycle as a result. When motorists make left turns, the motorcyclist who is driving straight ahead is at a great risk for being hit in this type of accident. The weather being a factor in a motorcycle accident is at a small percentage, under 5% overall, even when the elements are not under our control. But alcohol is under our control, and over half of the fatal motorcycle accidents are because of a result of the driver drinking or another driver hitting the motorcyclist as a result of having had too much to drink.

As a matter of fact, fatalities as a result of motorcycle accidents were on a continual rise until the year 2009, when they declined for the first time dropping to 4,462 in 2009 from 5,312 noted in 2008. The figures compare with over 30,000 fatal accidents of which over 24,000 were with passenger vehicles. Statistically speaking, there are almost 4 passenger cars and trucks for every one motorcycle currently on the nation’s highways. It is necessary for motorcycle drivers to understand the risks and work to keep themselves safe on the roads at all times.

What can a motorcycle enthusiast do to keep safe? The most important idea is to understand your motorcycle and know now it operates. It is necessary to take a course in riding a motorcycle safely and understand how to lean into curves, how to mount the motorcycle, know what equipment to wear while riding, understand how to repair the motorcycle if it breaks down on the road (especially in isolated areas) and how to be a responsible driver on the roads. New motorcycle drivers should begin riding on open rural roads, then lesser used highways, then work up to become experienced enough to take the road trip they have been dreaming of their whole lives. It is foolish and foolhardy to buy a motorcycle and then proceed out on a complex road trip without having the experience to stay safe, make necessary repairs and understand what it means to be safe on the road. For example, if you have never been caught in the rain with a tee shirt while riding on the back of a motorcycle, you have no idea that the rain feels like needles and there is lots of debris and mud kicked up by the motorcycle. If the rider is wearing appropriate leather to protect the person from the weather and an accident, the ride becomes enjoyable, safe and a pleasant trip no matter what the weather! If a rider is wearing riding gloves, boots fully cover ankles and feet and has on chaps or leather pants, a leather jacket, rain gear and reflective outer garments if necessary and a properly fitting helmet, because the sky is the limit to the fun that can be had on the motorcycle while out on the open road.

Motorcycle drivers are expected to and must obey all the rules of the road that apply to car drivers. This is a fact not an option. Motorcycle drivers need to understand that they can be injured or cause injury to others by lane splitting, driving at excessive speeds over the stated speed limits, or driving under the influence of controlled substances or alcohol. If the driver of a motorcycle takes drugs, he or she can endanger himself/herself and any other driver or pedestrian on the road.

Motorcyclists should also minimize distractions while on the road. They need to turn down the radio while driving and limit to exclude use of cell phones on the road. They need to be fully engaged in driving the motorcycle to appreciate and see hazards located in the road in time to avoid them and prevent an accident.

Riding a motorcycle is a bit more complicated than just hopping on one and turning on the ignition. If the rider is aware of hazards, understands the responsibility of driving a motorcycle, knows how to stay safe and protect the safety of others – riding can be a memorable and extremely freeing and pleasant experience. This is definitely one to add to the bucket list, and when done right, it can be an amazing memory builder for anyone interested in the adventures of the open road.

Whether you are planning your next vacation or wanting to explore America with no boundaries, there are some sights that were meant to be seen from the seat of a motorcycle. Here is a list of some of the most beautiful, or challenging, roadways that will surely capture your heart.

5. Blue Ridge Parkway

Spanning 469 miles and winding its way through North Carolina and Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the most visited unit in the United States National Park System. Construction of the highway took over 52 years to complete and was created to connect Shenandoah National Park with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park system. Also known as “America’s Favorite Drive”, this highway was meant to be enjoyed at a relaxing pace, soaking up the aromas of the wild flowers, the crisp air rushing across a waterfall, and the never ending mountains and skies. Early fall is the most popular time to travel this road as the high elevations and cool temperatures start to change the foliage and the colors of crimson and gold take over the trees.

4. Hana Highway

Located in Maui, the “Road to Hana” contains 68 miles of natural rainforest connecting Kahului with the town of Hana. Most of the concrete and bridges that make up this route are original, dating back to 1910. There are approximately 620 hairpin curves and 46 one lane bridges.

3. Going-to-the-Sun Road

Completed in 1932, this is the only road that goes through the heart of Glacier National Park, spanning 53 miles and crosses the Continental Divide. At its highest elevation of 6,646 ft., also known as Logan’s Pass, through the cedar forests and mirror-like glacial lakes, this is one ride that should definitely be on the bucket list. Due to the amount of snow, the road is usually only open from early June through mid-October so plan your trip accordingly.

2. Hell’s Canyon

This 218-mile scenic loop encompasses the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon and can take up to 8 hours to complete without stopping. If you are searching for the soul of the American west, it lays somewhere between the 2-mile high mountains and mile-deep gorges of this untamed land. Start your journey in Baker City, a gold mining town that boomed in the 1890’s and continues on through Hell’s Canyon, America’s deepest river-carved gorge. Much of the wilderness is untouched and inaccessible, but the views can be seen from June-October when the roads are open.

1. Deal’s Gap/The Dragon/Tail of the Dragon

Although it’s known by many names, this 11-mile stretch of road containing 318 hairpin curves, Deal’s Gap is one of the most coveted pieces of asphalt to lay beneath any motor vehicle. Part of US 129 and laying on the Tennessee/North Carolina state line, one can only imagine why this stretch of road has a name like “Tail of the Dragon”. Many of the curves even have their own names such as Copperhead Corner, Hog Pen Bend, Wheelie Hell, and Killboy. This is the only destination that’s not considered a “scenic” drive as you shouldn’t take your eyes off of the road! This road was meant to be ridden and given the proper respect.

When our daughter, Fiona, was born this past October, my husband and I used her presence as an excuse to buy a year-long membership to a nationwide network of children’s museums. On her one month birthday, she slept in the Baby Bjorn while we spent several hours playing in the exhibits at a museum we were visiting. Now that she’s a little older (5 months), our small family has spent several Saturdays hanging out in the youngster section of our local museum. Will Fiona ever appreciate our attempt to expose her to culture and education from such an early age? Probably not. But, here’s the thing: children’s museums aren’t just for kids anymore. My husband and I go because we have fun. Here are my top five choices for children’s museums that you must visit before you die.

Children’s Museum of Indianapolis- This Indiana museum has the distinction of being the largest children’s museum in the world. One highlight is the Dinosphere where you can touch a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil and excavate bones in the dig site. Preschoolers will love the Dora and Diego exhibit where Spanish vocabulary is incorporated into the play and activities. Needless to say, your family vacations might need to be extend to more than one day!

Terre Haute Children’s Museum- About an hour away from Indianapolis is a small town called Terre Haute with a brand new children’s museum. You can reach the upper stories of this play land by climbing through a tree house. On the second floor, you can milk a cow or drive a tractor to learn about the Midwest’s agricultural way of life. Our daughter enjoyed the shoe-free baby and toddler zone where she could crawl for toys and knock down block towers built by mom and dad.

Children’s Museum of Houston- One word: Kidtropolis. Inside the museum is a city where kids put their economic lessons into practice. Visitors can choose a job, receive a salary, put money in a bank account, and use a debit card to make purchases. Cool, right?

COSI: Center of Science and Industry— This museum is what prompted us to buy a membership pass. Although it is not technically a children’s museum, its hand’s on exhibits are enticing for young people. My favorite exhibit was the high-wire unicycle. Perched seventeen feet above the floor, you can ride this bike across the lobby skyline.

Children’s Museum in Guatemala City— If you ever find yourself in this Central American city, check out this well-staffed attraction. Here kids can make paper or strap on a harness and experience what it’s like to be in zero-gravity space. They can be shocked by the electricity exhibit and learn about how coffee is made by pretending to be a coffee bean. Older kids will love the outdoor rock climbing wall.

If your kids or spouse ever expresses interest in exploring a great museum, head to one of these five spectacular museums. You won’t be disappointed!

There’s nothing like a good horse race to get the blood pumping, and all over the world at any given time there are a range of local and international races to choose from, in terms of watching, betting—or both! While all horse races are fun, there’s something truly special about the famous, prestigious ones that stop people in their tracks (no pun intended) all over the world. Here, we’ve created a list of the top 4 most prestigious horse races in the world, so get your horse racing tips, because you’ll want to put a bet on these ones!

Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is a horse race run in Kentucky, USA each year, and draws an international audience. Held on the first Saturday of May, the Derby caps off the Kentucky Derby Carnival, always a crowd pleaser. It is a race run by three-year-old thoroughbreds, and is known within the USA as ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports’. The winning horse is draped in a blanket of roses, earning the Derby another nickname—‘the run of the roses’

Royal Ascot

Held in Ascot in the UK, the Royal Ascot is so much more than a horse race—it’s an opportunity for the wealthy upper class to dress in their finest and rub shoulders with each other, strictly adhering to the formal dress-code of top-hats and tails.

The Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup draws a huge Australian and international audience each year and is considered the most venerable thoroughbred race down under. Founded in 1861, the race has long been the pride of the city of Melbourne, and is affectionately known as ‘the race that stops a nation’. Stop a nation it does, with several states declaring Melbourne Cup Day a public holiday, and classrooms and workplaces around the country pausing at 3:20 on the first Tuesday of November to see if their pick comes in.

The Dubai World Cup

The richest horse race in the world, the Dubai World Cup is held at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, in a custom-built complex to make any racing enthusiast weep with joy. With many of the world’s rich and famous attending the race, the fashion is almost as big an attraction as the horses themselves, with couture as far as the eye can see.

Horse racing is one of the most enjoyable spectator sports—there’s not much to understand, there’s plenty of opportunities for champagne, and it’s an excellent excuse to dress up to the nines and see and be seen. If you want an extra special experience, however, we recommend gathering your racing tips, jumping on a plane and making your way to one of these prestigious races—you’re sure to have an experience you’ll never forget, and who knows? You may even back a winner.

Camping Chairs not only come in all shapes and sizes but they also come in very handy.

While camping is a good way for us to get back in touch with nature, there are some modern day comforts that can enhance any camping trip. Camping chairs are examples of such comforts. You certainly can have an enjoyable expedition without the help of chairs, but for many people, having some chairs on hand are essential for making the most of their camping experience. This article will discuss some of the different types of camping chairs that are available on the world wide web.

Most camping chairs are folding chairs. This allows you to pack them tightly into your camping kit. There are limitations to how much you can fold them, of course. Most camping folding chairs are designed to be stored conveniently into a car or camper van. You can buy models that will fit into a back pack, but these chairs are very small and not built for comfort.

If you are planning on bringing a portable table with you, then you can often find camping chairs that will be well suited for sitting around the table. Sometimes these chairs will come as part of a folding camping table set. Camping table chairs are generally of the folding variety.

Most camping chairs are essentially outdoor camping chairs. This means that they are made of materials that can withstand outdoor weather elements such as rain, mud and snow. While this is good in terms of durability, it is not so good when it comes to comfort. However, if you are going camping, you are probably willing to sacrifice a few levels of comfort for the time that you are away from home. And, having some camping chair, no matter how comfortable or uncomfortable, is often more comfortable than having to sit on logs or even the ground.

Many campers like to carry their gear with them over considerable distances. If this sounds like you, then it is important that you buy a lightweight camping chair. The majority of camping chairs are lighter than a typical indoor chair, but you can buy chairs that are particularly light and easy to carry around. The disadvantage of lightweight camping chairs is that they are not as strong and sturdy as heavy models. If you have a heavy build, have a look at the manufacturers weight specifications before you purchase a lightweight chair. The last thing you want is to buy a chair that breaks as soon as you sit on it. But the advantages of folding camping chairs far outweigh any of their disadvantages.

Some lightweight camping chairs are made out of stronger materials, but these are much more expensive than the weaker ones. However, if you expect to do a lot of camping in the years to come, it may well be worth your while investing in some lightweight heavy duty camping chairs. They will last for years and you will not have to worry about lugging a heavy chair around every time you go camping.

Aside from the standard single seat upright camping chairs, there are many other camping chair variations. If you expect your camping trip will involve a lot of relaxing and reclining, then you may wish to consider getting one of the many reclining camping chairs. There are different types of reclining chairs. Some are designed so that the only position they assume is a reclined position. Others are designed so that they can be adjusted between various levels of recline, right up to an upright position.

You will also often find camping lounge chairs in online store catalogues that are advertising portable camping chairs. These are handy for trips that you plan to take with other people. They help you create a living room environment in your outdoor camping setting. Again, these types of chairs are not as sturdy as typical indoor lounge chairs. They are usually made of light materials and a foldable frame for easy storage and transportation.

Those are some of the main types of camping chairs available these days. You can see that they are very similar to the types of chairs that you would typically find inside a home. The main difference, as already mentioned, lies in the materials of the chairs. Camping chairs are not as strong as indoor chairs, but that is the cost you must pay for having chairs that you can easily transport from place to place.

When shopping for camping chairs, be sure to visit a number of different stores before you make a purchase. Usually, at any given time, there will be a store out there offering great discounts on camping chairs. It just takes a bit of time and patience to find the best deals.

Also, take the time to read reviews for camping chairs as well, as this will give you an idea as to whether or not people like the chairs after they give them a test run. When checking out customer reviews, look beyond the number of stars ratings that people give. Some people give a one star rating simply because the chair did not arrive quickly, or because they do not like the color. Often these complaints will not be relevant to you, so it is important to read the details of each review, rather than just the star ratings. Otherwise, you may follow the advice of someone who has completely different preferences to you, and then you may end up buying a chair that you do not even like.

The last thing we want to cover in this article is the issue of safety. Many people overlook this factor when they get a camping chair, and then they end up hurting themselves or someone else. You can never guarantee your safety when sitting on a camping chair, but you should follow some simple and commonsense guidelines to avoid running into trouble. For example, you should never set up your chair on uneven ground. Even if you think the environment looks safe and sturdy, a camping chair can easily fall over, and you can never predict what you may fall on. Also, avoid leaning back too far on a chair, particularly if it is not designed to recline. Reclining improperly on a camping chair can put a lot of pressure on the frame, and it is very easy to snap a leg in half in this way. The result could be a hard knock to the head, and that is definitely not something you want to happen when you are out in the middle of nowhere.

When your are planning on going out on a whitetail deer hunting trip you will need to take into consideration that these animals have self defense mechanisms built into their senses that are so far beyond what humans have that it is hard to wrap your mind around them.

Even though the whitetail possess this powerful advantage they are still able to be brought down if the proper skill and equipment is brought to bear.

First things first…You need to understand your prey. This way you will know how to put yourself in a position to succeed. Being in the right place at the right time never hurts when whitetail deer hunting. But if you think that you can depend on luck in your quest to bag a venison you are going to disappointed.

The whitetail deer’s acute senses are going to be your main enemy during the hunt. The sense of smell, sight, and hearing are so good on a whitetail that they will often defeat you before you realize that they are even within sight.

When whitetail deer hunting you are looking at the exercise as a sport, the deer on the other hand views the exercise as a matter of survival. It will use its senses to help alert it to any possible danger.

Just like a lot of animals, a deer’s sense of smell will let it know you are in the area long before you know that the deer is there. You will have to take steps to defeat this advantage that the deer enjoys if you ever hope to get close enough to bring one down.

If you take a good hard look at the nostrils of a deer you will see that they are very large. Don’t be mistaken into thinking that they are for show. They are natures way of giving the deer a way of staying clear of you and your rifle.

Whitetail deer also have large ears. They are not listening to music on their iPods with those ears. They are using those large ears to listen for anything out of the ordinary, like you trampling through the woods.

If you come prepared with the proper knowledge, a whitetail deer hunt can be a great escape from your normal routine. Nothing beats being out in the wilderness more than a hunting trip.

If you are not experienced it might do you some good if you hired a whitetail deer hunting guide to show you the ropes and help you out on your first whitetail deer hunting trip.

So make sure you relax, have fun, be prepared and enjoy your whitetail deer hunting adventure.

The way that you would choose the best binoculars is pretty much the same way you would choose a pair of eyeglasses. You would want to try them on for starters! You wouldn’t dream of buying a pair of eyeglasses without trying them on, so why would you even consider buying binoculars without trying them out?

The weight of the binoculars, the way they feel in your hand, against your eye glasses, the balance they afford, how clear you can see objects through them, all of these things come into play when you are deciding on what binoculars are for you.

When shopping for the best binoculars you will need to push aside all of the techno mumbo jumbo that they try to confuse you with. All you really need to know about binoculars is the following:

Binoculars are two small telescopes that are attached in the middle.

When you look through these 2 “telescopes” the image that your minds eye sees is singular. And that is exactly why you would want to try binoculars out before you buy them. For some people the image that they see may be fuzzy or unfocused. The weight of the binoculars might be too heavy for you to hold steady. The eyepiece of the binoculars may not fit well with you eyeglasses. By trying out several pair you will be able to choose based on experience and not some advertisement.

The above holds true whether you are looking for the best compact binoculars, or the best zoom binoculars, or even the best birding binoculars.

When looking for the best bird watching binoculars you must look with an eye towards detail. Bird watchers demand that their binoculars be lightweight. Because birdwatchers spend countless hours out in the field the weight issue is very important. They also need to be light so that they can be held with a steady hand. Bird watchers are trying to pick out small details from small birds that have a habit of flying away at a moments notice. Another quality that birders look for is fast focusing. When time is of the essence you can’t be wasting it trying to focus your binoculars.

Good binoculars should last you for many years without any problems. When you go out to buy a new pair of binoculars make sure to visit several different stores, try out as many pair that you want, and then you will be able to make the proper decision when it comes to buying the best binoculars.

Poker Bluffing time arrives when your competition has to be convinced that you have a winning hand when in reality you are holding nothing! There is a real science involved in getting another person to think that your bluff is actually real. Once you bet or raise a bet the other person needs to start thinking that you really do have a better hand. Now that is a successful bluff!

There is a saying in real estate, “Location Is Everything.” Well there is a saying in poker, “Timing Is Everything.” Not only is timing important when bluffing but just as important is the scarcity of bluffing as part of your strategy. If you are caught bluffing too many times people won’t take you seriously. Don’t bluff unless you feel that it will provide a winning strategy.

There Are Bad Times To Bluff

When Others Expect You To Bluff: If you are found to bluff too many times most other players will dismiss you as a serial bluffer. To remedy this situation you are going to have to stop bluffing until you start winning “honestly”. Once your reputation is repaired then you can sparingly bluff with good results.

When There Are Too Many Players: The problem here is that the odds are not with you. When there are a lot players still in the hand then there is more than likely at least one player with a better hand than you. And early in the hand you can be assured they are going to stick with it no matter what you do.

When There Are Inexperienced or Bad Players At The Table: It should be no surprise to you that bad players are all over the place when it comes to poker. As the game has gained popularity there is also a burst of inexperienced players that are showing up. These two types of players are poison to a good poker bluffing strategy. They will call your hand no matter what. They have no regard to what cards you hold, they only want to better their hands. The end result is they will call any and everything.

When You Haven’t Won Any Hands: The competition will have expectations that you are going to take risks that you normally would not take. In the back of their minds they are going to be watching very carefully because they know you are going to try and win some of your money back any way you can.

It is just like we said at the start, good poker bluffing all comes down to timing and strategy. Just like there are times when bluffing is not a good idea, there are other times when bluff poker is the way to go. Let’s take a look at some “times of opportunity”!

When Opportunity Knocks—Bluff

When You Are Up Against Weak Or Tight Players: After you get comfortable with how everybody at the table is playing the game, you should take aim on the weak and the tight because they have a tendency to fold way too soon. Just make sure that you don’t bluff too early. They very well might be holding a good hand of their own or they just will refuse to believe that your hand is any better than theirs is.

When The Number Of Players Has Dwindled: Poker strategy changes when there are fewer players in the pot. It becomes a simpler task to trick a few people rather than a whole table of people. Besides, if you have a decent hand the odds are on your side that others do not.

When Your The Last To Declare After All Have Checked: Normal betting will squeeze some of the players out of the pot. It is not at all uncommon for a player to bluff and bet on the button, so usually you will see people calling because they will refuse to believe that you have a better hand. Strategically it will also let you see where you stand.

When You Missed With Your Preflop Bet: If you got an ace and queen and bet preflop, and the flop does not do you any good with a king-8-5, then your opponents very well might believe you have a strong hand because of your bet preflop. So a good bluff bet on the flop will get people thinking that the flop put you in a good position.

When Your Opponents Fear You: Once you have beaten the guy sitting across the table from you with a good strategy they will become aggravated. You will be in the perfect position to mirror that same play and bluff with freedom. Your bluff will have added bite and people will fold left and right.

You will need to learn all aspects to the game of poker. But if you want to win, gain the respect of your peers, and live to play another day then deception is necessary. The art of poker bluffing is what separates the winners from the losers.
