How’s this for a radical new concept, “You wouldn’t need a data recovery service if your hard drive never failed”?

If you own a computer you should be worried, very worried that sooner or later your hard drive which is hidden deep within the bowels of your black box is going to fail.

All moving parts create friction and heat. Your hard drive is no different. It is susceptible to the dangers of wear and tear. The fact that it has moving parts is foretelling of a cataclysmic event that is sure to come. With that gleeful information in mind you should submit to the fact that one day you are going to need a hard disk data recovery.

Make sure when you bring your computer to a repair facility that you choose one that has been around for a while. Make sure that the people that are going to be ripping your computer apart have the necessary knowledge to put it back together again. They should ask questions to help in their diagnosis. Sometimes the smallest insignificant thing that you say will turn the light bulb on in the geeks head.

Probing for answers will let the tech decide if the hard drive can be repaired with a simple software fix or if more drastic (and costly) options should be explored. It is important to realize that hard drive failure can be caused for many different reasons.

More often than not you will be able to find a company in your community that can properly work on your computer.  I certainly would not recommend that you try and fix the hard drive yourself. Having your friend or neighbor take a whack at the task is also not too good of an idea. The smallest blip can cause problems with your computer or hard drive. What in the world would make you think that your drinking buddy will be able to figure out how to fix it?

When all else fails and you must replace the hard drive then re-establishing your backup comes into play.  If only it were that easy. Too many times the poor sap who thinks they have thought of everything finds out that the backup they created is out of date or lost.

When a hard drive can’t be fixed, data recovery is not going to work. Why? Because the data is on the hard drive…

The key to data recovery is to have automatic backups that run every week or even every day. The service should be with a reputable third party. If the information on your hard drive is important then use a data recovery service if the hard drive is beyond repair.
