I remember when Star Wars wall stickers were all the rage.  It was right after the first Star Wars movie came out.  I’m talking about the one that came out on the 21st of May of 1980!  That’s right we are talking old school Star Wars.

There were Star Wars Wall Stickers on my wall of all the characters:

  • Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill
  • Han Solo played by Harrison Ford
  • Princess Leia Organa played by Carrie Fisher
  • Grand Moff Tarkin played by Peter Cushing
  • Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Alec Guinness
  • C-3PO played by Anthony Daniels
  • R2-D2 played by Kenny Baker
  • Chewbacca played by Peter Mayhew
  • Darth Vader (I’m your father!) played by David Prowse
  • For anybody paying attention Darth Vader’s voice was actually not David’s voice but rather you heard James Earl Jones

Of course there was an assortment of Red Leader, Gold Leader, and Storm Trooper vinyl wall stickers everywhere you turned!

Removable wall stickers were my generations graffiti.  Of course even though these stickers came right off with no harm to the wall or paint, it still drove my parents crazy to see their beautiful, antiseptic, white wall covered from floor to ceiling with these giant wall stickers.

Star Wars certainly spawned an entire industry of toys, games, TV shows, and yes… Star Wars Wall Stickers.  And to this day there are people who collect every last bit of Star Wars trivia they can get their hands on.

Of course today it is video games that kids want more than bedroom wall stickers.  I guess kids want more action and less imagination when it comes to entertainment.  I still like the stickers, thank you very much.

May The Force Be With You

Maybe when Star Wars episode 37 comes out the Star Wars wall stickers will come back into vogue.   In the meantime I will keep all of my Star Wars trivia in a box,  up in the attic,  and guard it with my life!
